Elaine and John wanted more traditional posed wedding photographs so we had a few classical posed set-ups during the day. There was still time for some candid shots too which I think really help tell the story of their day. It can be hard to achieve a natural and relaxed look in traditional posed photos so having a bit of fun helps greatly!

I’m happy to say too that John and Elaine really love the reportage shots too.

If you look closely at the photograph of the LUAS passing in front of the Unitarian Church you can see the best man waiting on the steps.

Amy and Darran – Keadeen Wedding Photographs

Carton House Wedding Photos

I just finished retouching some photos from a wedding in Carton House. The shots here are not all pure reportage, which is my favourite style, but I do really love them. I’d walked some of the grounds with the couple a month before (we actually took one of the golf carts and went for a spin too!) and I think that really help create a very relaxed atmosphere on the day. You can see it in their expressions. I was experimenting on retouching too and I think some of the vintage colour and black and white really adds some magic. But hey, self-praise is no praise…hope you like them as much as I do.

Choosing a wedding photography style

It’s a feast or a famine with me and social media! I’ve been updating some of the galleries on my webpage and facebook page and while doing so I updated some of the descriptions I wrote for the different photography styles on offer. I initially wrote these descriptions some time ago mainly as a way of taking some of the mystery out of photography and help couples choose what suits their taste best!

Reportage Also called documentary or natural style. There is no posing. You get on with your day while the photographer captures the events and emotions as they occur. I find this is the preferred style as most couples ask for natural / non-posed photographs. My inspiration for this style is Henri Cartier Bresson, the godfather of photojournalism. He said photographers need to put their eye, mind and heart into their photographs. ● Having Fun ● Guest Shots ● Details of the day ● Reaction shots ● Real emotion vs staged shots

Contemporary Stylish, modern natural-posed photography and retouching using latest technology and techniques to create stunning images of you on your special day. These photographs are usually taken in parks, your venue & surrounding grounds. In order to create the most ‘natural’ feel to these photographs I introuduce a few simple techniques which will help you feel relaxed in front of the camera. These ‘tricks’ are explained and demonstrated during the pre-wedding consultation. Most couples find this a fun experience (perhaps they’re just laughing at me?) but something must sink in as then they act likerelaxed pros when doing the shots on the day!

Classical Formal shots, Posed groups, Portraits posed using lighting techniques introduced by Rembrandt in the 1600s. Timeless images you will cherish. These shots are posed by windows / in doorways / under trees in order to get the right lighting conditions. Body and camera position is subtley but delicately positioned and shots are taken almost instantly to capture you literaly in the best light. Although highly posed in nature it’s worth noting this style is somewhat ageless and done so to make you look your best.

K Club Wedding Show

Thanks to everyone for coming indoors yesterday on such a beautiful day and stopping by my stand at the K Club wedding show. It was great to meet lots of couples of all ages and cultures with their own unique plans for their big day. It was also great to meet all the other wedding suppliers. Thanks G & G for all the sweets. My 8 yo daughter was delighted!

Block T – Studio Artists Exhibition and Gallery Launch

Really looking forward to documenting the opening of Block T’s gallery space.

Here’s the info on the event:

We’re opening from 6 – 10pm to celebrate our spanky newly built 130 sqM (1,400 sq ft) gallery. Block T houses 18 artists, most of whom will be showcasing their artwork.

BLOCK T are pleased to launch its brand new gallery space with a showcase of work by our studio and resident artists. The new 140m² gallery space is equipped with modular walls facilitating the dynamic and versatile nature of the new gallery, allowing it to reconfigure its interior for each forthcoming show and exhibition.

First established in July 2010 BLOCK T has been operating from a former tile factory and warehouse on Smithfield Square in Dublin’s inner city. This 8000 square-foot space encompasses 11 resident artist studios and various workshop and performance spaces. BLOCK T is an organisation that provides a platform for visual and performing arts, as well as creative thinking on a wider level, locally and internationally. Run as an alternative educational and cultural model BLOCK T encompasses a broad spectrum of cross-disciplinary events facilitating an engaging programme that is accessible to a wide audience.

This launch also welcomes the beginning of BLOCK Ts Visual Arts Programme which will be curated by Ben Readman and Grace McEvoy.
